The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, using the Ice Cream Sandwich build of the Android operating system, FINALLY has the screenshot capability native to the device.

Simply hold the power button and the volume-down button at the same time for about 2 seconds, and "CLICK"...you have a screenshot!

It stores the file in your Gallery, in a special section called Screenshots. The file dimensions are 720 x 1280 px. The file size ranges depending on the contents of the screen. They can range from about 95 to 500K+. The file naming convention is thus: Screenshot_2012-01-25-14-59-32

This post is dedicated to all my iPhone-loving friends who are always hating on my Droid, who mock it for not being able to take screenshots. Problem solved.

There is a VERY easy permanent fix that does not require an update to the operating system.

From the MAIN settings page, click Language & input.

Then uncheck the Spelling correction.

You will STILL have autocorrection, since it is built into the Android keyboard. Part of the slowdown is the system trying to autocorrect twice.

Simply uncheck the Spelling correction checkbox, and your typing lag problem will be fixed.

We needed to extract the last name (and essentially drop the ending numbers).

The way we did this, without writing a UDF, was with the Char2HexInt function.

Numerals, once converted to Hex, always start with 003 (0030-0039).  So, we took the string, converted it to Hex, then found the first occurrence of '003'.

The code below actually gives the position of the final "letter" byte in the string (the byte to the left of the first numeral):

sel (position('003' in char2hexint(stringfield))-1)/4 as num_posn from table1

stringfieldis the field containing the string for which you want to find the first position of a numeral.

The math portion is important...you divide by 4 because each byte, when converted to Hex, now takes up 4 spots.

Thus: 'abc123' becomes '006100620063003100320033', and the first occurrence of 003 starts at byte 13. Take away 1 for 12, divided by 4 gives you 3, which is the position of the last letter. (To get the position of the first number, just add 1 to the result of the "position" code above.)

ONE NOTE: the source table for stringfield must have stringfield in the Unicode character set. If it is in Latin character set, the Char2HexInt will not return the full four-byte values. Instead, 'abc123' becomes '616263313233', which won't work. If you don't have control over the source table, create a volatile table with the field having a Unicode character set.

She's pretty smart...she tried selecting all rows (click the little box in the upper left corner above the Row numbers and to the left of the Column letters), and choosing Format, Row, Unhide.  But that didn't work.

We selected cell A2, and used the "up" arrow, and the cell locator box (to the left of the formula bar) indicated that the cursor was, indeed, in A1.  That means the row was not hidden.

In cell A1, we typed some text, then set the format to be 20pt.  Then we selected all, then Format, Row, AutoFit.  Still nothing.

I suspected it might be something to do with Panes.  I went to Window, and noticed the "Unfreeze Panes" option was available.  We clicked it, and the missing Row 1 was instantly visible again!  Problem solved!

If your Excel Row 1 is not visible, give those few steps a try!

So, how do you get the vanity URL in Facebook, like: "facebook.com/YourPage"?

Well, first, you login to Facebook using your account that has Admin permissions for the page.

Next, in the URL bar in your web browser, type this URL exactly:

http://facebook.com/username

DON'T replace 'username' with your username.  It's actually the exact word 'username' that needs to appear at the end of the URL.

That takes you to a screen where it lets you select your page, and assign it a new name.  It will let you check if the name has already been assigned first.  So the name you choose has to be unique.

Use caution...once you assign the custom URL for your Facebook Page, it cannot be changed.

But...if you have Berber-style carpet, you can end up making the stain worse, unless you use the following tip:

** use the attached suction nozzle to soak up extra water AFTER the cleaning cycle is done **

The reason is that the Berber carpet is 'hard' enough to keep the rim of the Spot-Bot from sealing tight against the rug.  Therefore there is not as much suction, and the device leaves a wet spot (of nice, dirty water) on the carpet.

However, it has done a really remarkable job of cleaning the rug...just not of getting the dirty water up.  Leaving the spot wet afterward will actually make a perfectly round stain.  By using the attached 'wand' with the suction handle, you can remove the additional brown water, and have a really clean berber carpet!

So, in Crysis 2, right away I wanted to invert the look.

I hit the Start button from in-game, and went to the Controls settings.  There it allowed to change the configuration of stick layout and button layout (ie: default, southpaw, legacy, etc.)...but NOT the look inversion!

I was so amazed that there was no look inversion option for Crysis 2!   It was totally going to mess up my Call of Duty playstyle.

Eventually, I found the inversion setting.  It was under Settings, GAME, instead of CONTROLS.  A weird place to put it...you'd think it would be with the rest of the controls.  But, at least it's an option!

For example, Sheet 1 has a bunch of data going down column A, and on Sheet 2, for whatever reason, you need to do a calculation and you want it across row 1.  Or vice versa.

It's been frustrating me for a long time to have to manually make the change.  But, I've found the way to drag a formula and have it transpose.  The code works for either kind of transposition (horizontal to vertical or vertical to horizontal).

Assume source data is in Sheet1, A1:E1

In Sheet2

Put in A1:
=OFFSET(Sheet1!$A$1,COLUMNS($A$1:A1)-1,ROWS($A$1:A1)-1)

Copy A1 down by as many rows as there are columns in Sheet1, i.e. down to A5

A1:A5 will return whats in A1:E1 in Sheet1

Basically, set the $A$1 value to whatever the SOURCE is (the top left cell of the source range).  So, if your source is in C26:M37, you would put:

=OFFSET(Sheet1!$C$26,COLUMNS($A$1:A1)-1,ROWS($A$1:A1)-1)

Then as you drag the formula horizontally or vertically, it will work.

So, I started searching around for solutions.

Many of the solutions I found required that I "hack" the about:config page. That's fine, I guess, but not everyone is comfortable doing such things. (Nor should they be.)

One of the big culprits is bad plugins. I LOVE me some plugins. That's one of the reasons I use FF so much. But, I found that I had some old ones that I didn't use any more. I cleaned them out. That helped some.

But THEN I encountered the one, simple solution.

AFOM

AFOM is a one-step, no configuration plugin that SERIOUSLY frees up memory. I regularly had memory usage of almost 1G. Seriously. 900,000+K. All the time.

I installed AFOM and it now hovers between 10,000K and 30,000K. All by itself. Nothing else done.

So, save yourself the time and hassle. Go to Tools, Addons, and search for AFOM. Read the reviews there, if you're nervous about it (glowing reviews), install it, and BOOYAH! Much better memory usage.

Many of the forum posts incorrectly say that you have to have Xbox Live and that you are limited to two-player split-screen if you want to play against bots.

The problem is, people confuse "Combat Training" with playing against bots. True, there are bots in Combat Training, but there are OTHER bots in COD Black Ops as well!

For me, personally, I like to have some buddies who don't have their own XBox come over once a week and play Call of Duty. But it gets old playing the 4 of us against each other (especially since the skill levels vary WIDELY!) With Black Ops, we can split the screen four ways and play on the same team, against multiple AI opponents.

In the Multiplayer screen, choose Local Split Screen. Then Edit Game Options. Where it says "Friends", set that up to 4 (it defaults to 1). Where it says Enemies (which is "Disabled" by default), crank it up to as many as you want to oppose. There are limits to how many you can fight, based on how many friends you have.

There you go! Now you can split screen 4 ways and play against bots. You can even set the difficulty of the bots! (Recruit, Regular, etc.)
