How to Choose Room-Darkening Curtains

My daughter still naps. Well, she's almost 4, and her naps are more sporadic, but she is in her room for "nap time" whether she actually sleeps or not.

One thing that we've considered is looking for blackout curtains or blackout blinds. I didn't know much about them until I read about them here: Room Darkening Curtains

We opted for the room darkening blinds, because of the cost and the fact that it's just temporary. We also added an air-filter to her room for the white noise. She definitely sleeps better (and takes more naps) with it dark and with the white noise.

Personally, I'm not a fan of DVD VCR Combos. I can't stand anything about VHS tapes as a media format, so I refuse to buy any 'modern' technology that has anything to do with it.

I don't even own a VHS player any more. I don't have any VHS tapes that I want to see. I do have a few old movies (commercially-made), but I would rather buy them on DVD than fool with a combo unit.

Having said that, some people like having the combos. I guess they must have a ton of old VHS tapes, because with modern DVR technology, it can't be for recording TV shows, right? But for those who must have it, the choices can be daunting. There are so many options, and so many features to consider. There's an article at DVD VCR Recorders that explains what to look for when you have to buy one. I think the most important feature I read about there was to consider the types of media formats (DVDs) that the recorder can actually write on.

How to get the Inove WordPress Theme to work with Internet Explorer version 6.

In the stylesheet.css, edit the sidebar width, from 300 to 285:

Then, in the wp-content/themes/inove/img directory, you can delete header_footer.jpg and rename header_footer_1col.jpg to header_footer.jpg. This changes the header graphic so that it doesn't have the lines mismatched.

How to Choose an Expanded Permissive PCS

The USAF has now created a Virtual MPF that allows airmen to self-select their preferences.

Using the Expanded Permissive Assignment program, active-duty Airmen in the grades lieutenant colonel and below can list up to eight CONUS preferences -- bases or locales -- and apply via the virtual Military Personnel Flight.

The application will transmit electronically directly to the commander, then the assignments floor for coordination, and back to the Airman. An Air Force requirement must exist at the new location for the assignments team to consider the application.

"Airmen will have no physical trips, no time away from their work stations, 24-hour access to the program, the guidance of the strategic advisors at the MPF/MPE, and receive an e-mail response for confirmation, approval or disapproval," said Capt. Ronald Bell, chief of PSD operations.

Airmen applying for the Expanded Permissive PCS must meet all time on station requirements and be able to obtain any required PCS retainability. They will also incur all expenses associated with the PCS if approved for the program.

"The low cost of a local move makes the program a good choice for those who wish to transfer to another base in the same town or within easy moving distance," Captain Bell said. "And, if you're willing to pay to move, you could end up with your dream assignment."

The MPF/MPE will continue to assist applicants with accessing the vMPF and answering general questions about the Expanded Permissive PCS application.

Bringing a new puppy into the home is a very exciting time. However, it can start to take a turn for challenges when it comes to housetraining. You have to realize that your puppy is not born to know just when they are doing wrong by relieving themselves in unacceptable places around your home or yard. When they have to go, they just go and that's all there is to it! This is especially true if they have had no previous training as to where they should go to the bathroom. A certain area in the yard should be designated for your puppy to do his business. It is very important that when you walk your dog and take him outside that you visit this particular area often. If the puppy happens to have an accident while indoors, you should take him to this area right away. Eventually, your puppy will begin to understand that this area is the location where he is to relieve himself.

The next thing you should do to make sure that your housetraining efforts are a success is to develop a schedule that your pet can use. Your dog should be fed at certain times of the day so that you can set certain times when you walk your animal. When you do this, be sure to take your dog back to the same location over and over again. This will serve as a reinforcement technique that this is where your animal should go to do his business. The best time to take your pet out for a walk is within the first thirty minutes of your dog eating and drinking. This will make your housetraining efforts a success.

It is very important to heap lots of praise upon your puppy when you actually see that he has gone to relieve himself in the appropriate place in the yard. You may choose to talk to your dog in an upbeat, friendly tome, playing with him, patting him on the head or giving him a treat immediately afterwards. Your dog will come to recognize that what he has done is a 'good' thing, and he will be motivated to do it over and over again. Once this has been done enough, you will soon begin to notice that your puppy is indeed growing up. He is starting to go out to this area in the yard alone. If you have happened to have the puppy on a leash the first couple of weeks, it would be a good idea just to take him outside alone without one just to see if he goes alone. If he does, remember to reward and praise him!

If you share the house with other people - spouse and children - it is of vital importance that you encourage everyone to get involved with housetraining your puppy. This will include feeding and watering your animal on the set schedule that you have established, walking your pooch, taking him to the area that has been set asides as the one that he can do his business and praising them and rewarding them. You will then make sure that your housetraining endeavors are successful!
