There is an easy (and FREE) service by a website called Media Converter that works well to download and convert videos.

It allows you to find a video on YouTube (or a dozen other video sites), convert it to a format you would like, such as .mpg, .avi, .wmv, .wma, and many more.  Then you can download it.

You can use the free version of Media Converter which has some limitations on file size, source sites, and number of downloads per day, but it is still pretty generous.  There is an upgraded premium version that allows bigger files from even more sites, without limitations per day.
