If you want to conserve energy, but know how expensive it is to have someone come in and 'make your house green', you know that it can cost tens of thousands of dollars. This takes 30 years to recover the costs of the power saved.

But, you can do it yourself if you're a little bit handy.

There's a site on the web where you can get plans for homemade wind and solar power. Apparently the materials cost under $200, and he even shows where to get free deep-cycle batteries to store the power.

Some friends of my father's have converted their house and their power meter actually runs backwards and they get credits from the power company. Isn't that crazy? They paid a ton for a high-end system installed for them, because they're not very handy. But these plans are really easy to follow.
