How to Make a Morph Video (like the Obama Hussein Morph)

If you've seen the Barack Obama Hussein Morph video, you know that it's pretty cool looking. It might be totally politically-incorrect and a bit disturbing, but hey...it caught your attention!

And what might surprise you is how easy it was to make it. Here's how to do it:

  1. Download Fantamorph, by Abrosoft.
  2. Search the internet for two images you want to blend. Save them to your hard drive. Make sure the images are of a similar orientation (ie: both facing left, both facing the camera, etc.), and of a similar size. If you need to edit the image, GIMP is a powerful, but free, photo editor. You can use it to crop or resize the image (among other things).
  3. Insert the two images into Fantamorph. Place dots on one picture, and move the corresponding dot on the other picture. For example, place a dot in the center of the left eye on one image, and another dot will appear on the other image...move that dot to the center of the left eye.
  4. Repeat with lots of dots until the images blend well. Typically I match up dots on and around the eyes, nose, mouth, and hairline. Sometimes the ears.
  5. Export the image to an .AVI file. Make sure you check the options to include reverse frames.
  6. Open Windows Movie Maker, and import the .AVI file you created.
  7. Insert the .AVI into the video two or three times. Personally, I like to then 'Split' the movie where the blend looks the coolest. Then use the 'Slow Down' effect and stretch out that final frame.
  8. Publish the Video onto your Desktop.

Voila! Now you've made your own morph video!
